Participation Trophies - What a Joke

Should every kid get a trophy just for signing up?

You do not get a trophy just for showing up. There is nothing better than seeing your own name on a trophy. By giving every kid a trophy no matter what, you are not preparing them very well for their adult life. There's a whole crowd out there who want to get paid and do as little as possible.

There is no point in playing if the kids are not going to try. As parents you need to be teaching your kids to work hard and contribute on their team as a player. By giving children trophies just for participation, kids will think it is fine just to show up and be good, but not try. The children on your team have accomplished the goals of trying something new, learning about a new sport, working together, making new friends, and more. When you got to middle and high school, no one was moping around wondering why some kids made the team and others did not. Tom Izzo says society is soft, kids today are pampered and receiving trophies for participation. Coaches donate a lot of time to be there for the kids. The kids and their parents had a great time, and there was a true feeling of friendship and achievement. There's been a lot of debate about whether all kids who participate in a given league or sport should get a trophy. Everyone on the team gets a participation trophy just for showing up.

Most coaches do want to reward every kid for their effort and success. Each team needs to decide what will work best for the dynamic of their specific situation. The 8-yo kids picked the same guys as the coaches did. Coaches who want to motivate kids, recognize superior performances and reward the intangibles, must find some new ways to do so. Yorkville Youth Athletic Association in New York City has been phasing out universal awards for kids 11 and up for a few years now.

Each player is recognized for his/her service and his/her leadership throughout the season. At the end of the trophy the newly awarded wines can be presented and sold. The Pirates have not had a winning season since 1992. To become a respected soccer player, one has to act decently on and off the field. There are 15 judging events with approximately five to 25 schools participating in each contest. Great write up and fascinating account of of the events.

You are not entitled to something just because you want it. By now your child will begin to set goals for himself. Only you know where your money goes and what your needs will be in the future. You should not waste space storing something you do not value. There goes the internal motivation and the joy of doing your best. There is plenty more to say on golf and Morocco.

Everyone does NOT win and you are not entitled to anything. 5 and 6 year olds do not really care who wins. There is usually a clear-cut line between what is worth keeping and what is not. Not everyone can just mosey up the hill of the Lord.

The true lesson is how you handle yourself when you lose. You did a good job and went above and beyond what was expected.

Sports trophies for all participants have been going on for a long time.

Certificates of Participation will be awarded to all players who complete the competition.

The winning team gets to take the perpetual championship trophy home.

Kids should not get awards for trying to play a sport.
